Got me Skyports, loving them, but want to get some more reliable cables to attach to my Speedlights. The standard PC-to-jack isn't great (the PC isn't the best attachment in my mind) so can you get a jack-to-TTL screw port like the ones you find on the side of speedlights?

Link to a US site below - anyone know of a UK seller?...

I just use an elastic band.

My current method but I look like a pikey doing it :)

Not expensive at $15 plus $6 shipping. Or make one yourself if you have the camera co-ax bit and buy a jack from Maplins for 79p. It's easy-peezy :) Flash In The Pan has some cheap cables - PM him http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=157807

Too lazy to wait for the overseas post, plus if it can be bought cheaper in the UK then I'd prefer that way. Oh, I'm not DIY minded at all :)

Will have a word with FITP

Pat,

I can knock the cable up for you tomorrow, I've just checked my parts bin and I have a bag of 3.5mm jack plugs. It will mean butchering a remote cable though so you will need to price one up with FITP and he can send it to me with my next order. If you make a £5 donation to TP and arrange to replace my lead with FITP (no postage as he can just send it with my next order!) I'll send it tomorrow.

Let me know.

Cowasaki, that would be splendido :)

I'll PM FITP and sort that money-wise etc - a fiver donation to TP is a great idea for your services.

What a dude :D

EDIT: PM sent to FITP...

PM me your address. I have the jack plug in my hand now and will do the lead in the morning.

Pat,

I decided to nip down and make the cable....

I connected it to my D200 and shorted the jack and it triggered the shutter so it's even tested and working.

That looks great and really useful.....

...but it's not exactly what I'm after; what you've made is for remotely triggering the shutter via a Skyport; I'm after a jack (to plug into the skyport) with the screwlock fitting that is found on the side of a Speedlight so it's a more secure fit than the standard PC socket connector.

I'll still recompense you for that though; it'll come in useful for long exposure stuff for sure :)

Oh b****r! Its not a Nikon remote to 3.5mm jack its a sync cable to 3.5mm jack........

I've just made the wrong cable

:gag:

We just replied at the same time then!!

I will just check for the PC sync connector....

You know the ones - the TTL cable-type ones you get for connecting multiple speedlights together.

Doh! Yes I have a couple of the cables you are talking about but again no screw lock on them. You don't need to replace the cable I made as I will just remove the jack plug and can use this cable in the USB board project I was doing a while ago.

Just a shame I have not got the bits to make exactly what you are after!

I think we are all really confused now. Can you show us all EXACTLY which sockets you are going from and to

I think I might have one of the cables from the RF-602 sets that has a screw-on pc fitment, I take it you could mod it for Pat, Darren?

No problem but I'm now confused as to what is being connected to what :)

It's a regular pc->3.5mm cable he needs, but with a locknut on the pc end

Oh right, thats simple enough it you have a lead with the screw fit PC plug on it I can chop the other end off and fit another 3.5mm jack plug. If he is in no hurry for it I will be placing another order off you in about 3 weeks (pay day!) but if he wants it earlier I just need that cable.

That's the kiddy :)

Cowasaki, the Skyports use a 3.5mm jack-to-pc connector to fire the flash, but a standard slot-on PC connector can fall off. My idea was that the TTL PC connector, with the thread collar, would be more secure.

Man, I wish I knew more about the whole terminology of this - doh!!! :)

I had that problem myself before I went wireless :)

Yes between the two of us FITP and myself we can sort the cable out

I'm surprised nobody actually makes that cable! Maybe it would be a useful new line for FITP :)

Now there's a thought. We want 10% commission for causing all this furore in the first place... ;)

Cheers Cowasaki, Flash - you're both good eggs with all the help:)

3.5mm to TTL PC threaded collar (SC27 style), about 15cm long...

...TTL thread collar (SC27) off you to send to Cowasaki who'll then fit a 3.5mm jack...

...sorry, I'm in the middle or juggling nappy changes with this so I'm all over the shop!!!!

If it is definitely an SC-27 ie the plug with 3 pins then I have one of those cables here that I could happily use and FITP can send me one with my next order. I will just need to find out what the pin out is.

Saying this, the lead you pointed out at the beginning is NOT an SC-27 to 3.5mm jack it is a PC sync to 3.5mm jack........

There are some SC-27 to jack plug leads in the RF trigger kits :) !!

like this:

If that goes into this (the port nearest my thumbs) then we're sorted...

It does! So now we know exactly what you need FITP should be able to sort that from stock !!

A plug to go into either of those two sockets should work, you can get screwlock PC sync cords as well as screwlock SC-27 cords.

If FITP still sells the curly screwlock pc -> screwlock pc cords, you could get one, cut it in half, and put a headphone jack on each new bared end to give you two of the cables that you need. I've been meaning to order a couple to do precisely that - flash, if you're interested, I'd be happy to solder some up with 3.5mm jack plugs (ie the cable needed here) in exchange for a couple of small bits and pieces :) It feels at times like I've soldered more of these plugs than I've had hot dinners...

Alternatively, you can get SC-27 cords fairly easily and cheaply around the tinternets if FITP doesn't have any. :)

We've already identified the cable and it's one the FITP stocks anyway :)

that'll teach me to be unawake after a shoot...so you have :p
