Hi guys, I' after some advice. My grandson will be going to Oaklahoma US for proton therapy to treat his cancer in a couple of weeks time and will be away for up to14 weeks in total. We will obviously miss him something rotton and i am looking for the best way to be able to keep in touch but to be honest have never tried skype or anything like the apple face thing. I have a large family, all with smartphones etc and from what I'm told ,skype seems to be a good solution.
I would welcome any suggestions for or against skype, plus any other recommendations for the best kit and system.

Steve.

Viber and Google also offer free video chats, I think all of them allow multiple users in a call. Voice on Viber is a lot better than it was, but the video doesn't seem to be that great still. We change between them depending on how it's running on the day, but usually use Skype. (I talk to friends and family back home in the UK all the time).

Oovoo has free group video calls, just watch out when installing as it might try to install some other software too.

Use skype all the time when I am away... As long as there is an internet connection....
PS. Good luck with the treatment!

Skype here too, easy to setup and use.
Hope his treatment goes well :)

Don't you have to pay for group video calls on Skype?
I hope the treatment is effective for your grandson. Fingers crossed.

Skype here too. Fairly seamless as long as you're all on similar/newest versions of the software otherwise you might have a small delay while it asks you to update before you can contact X person(s).

Another vote for Skype.

Another one for Skype. Free, easy to setup, does the job well.

Skype works....I prefer and experience better quality and connections with FaceTime I use that a lot with colleagues around the world...Also works very well on 3G and 4G devices...

Thanks for the replies and thoughts guys, looks like skype gets the thumbs up so far and appears to be available to the most common devices so I think thats the one for me.

Cheers

Steve.
