Hello! :)

I'm off to Skye this Friday after work, and will be returning late Sunday evening. I will be stopping at places like Glencoe, Glenfinnan and Eileen Donan Castle on the way. Have already shot them, would be keen to see how my style has changed since last time.

Can anyone recommend any other "must visit" locations? Any fantastic mountains or glens that are relatively easy to reach from road side?

I really must see the Cullins this time, I hear there are RED and BLACK - is it worth visiting both?

What are the other glorious glens I can get on the way to Skye, In Skye, and on the way back?

Really looking forward to this, a whole weekend of nothing but scottish scenery and my camera! Goind to be awesomely good fun :) Weather might be crappy, but it will only add to the mood of the photos.

I went to Skye one summer. Rained every day for two weeks. Marvellous place. I remember there was a girl there, who was camped up next to us, walking around in white stilettos (this was in the mid 80s) pretty much every day. If she's still there, that would make a great photo.

We were in Skye last weekend, the route via the A87 past Invergarry and Loch Garry was quite stunning, there's a viewpoint about halfway along with a decent parking area.

Unfortunately the bridge to Eileen Donan was covered in scaffolding:( but still managed a few decent pics. In Skye we took a nature tour from Portree harbour - I got some cracking Sea Eagle pics on that. We didn't see whales or dolphins but that would just have been greedy:D

Alas the Cuillins were hidden from view until we departed during heavy hail and sleet - made for an interesting drive back!:D In the north east The Old Man of Storr would be worth a visit (again we couldn't see it) I hope to visit the place again sometime for a bit longer.

Have fun:)
John

P.S we stayed in the Marmalade hotel in Portree - lovely place and amazing food!

Gary,

Just a wee suggestion for you, and if the light is right, when you go over the bridge from Kyle of Lochalsh, turn left and go right down to the harbour at Kyleakin. Some nice view down there.

We stay with relatives there when we visit and we are possibly buying a house at Dornie soon - watch this space for holiday lets ;)

It sure would, sounds like you had a wet but great time.

God damn, I am gutted about Eileen Donan, was really looking forward to some more photos of it.

Nature isn't really my thing, as I'm crap. I will defo keep my eyes open though.

Thanks I will head on down and have a peek. Good luck with the purchase, sounds excellent.

Before or after Skye have a little drive around the costal roads between Skye and Mull. Spent a long afternoon driving around them a few years back and really enjoyed it

Between Morvich and Kyle, there's a couple of viewpoints signposted off the main road on Loch Duich-side, they go high up the hill on the old road, get great views back up to the Five Sisters...

dont jump toooo high its only on peaks & was melting. pic below will give you rough idea. always wanted to photograph Eileen Donan Castle and dont think i've seen a bad picture of it

Big Fella is at butty bar at Loch Tulla, Black Mount always get them mixed up hopefully right one. Hes not always this close just drove into car park for cuppa T & butty and there he was. Took about 14-15 shots (not best one) and just sat and watched him while drinking T. Thought b****r it Glen Coe will look timid now i've got my shot that made trip worthwhile lol

Shots were taken with canon 10-22 uncropped, it was only after i was told they can turn and attack people but hes reasonably timid but dont go tooo close.

Castle Stalker is another excellent subject, take the road to the port ramsay ferry and it brings you out lochside. Further up, Applecross is beautiful, as well as Knoydart, and if you have the legs, Durness, and Cape Wrath are bleak and brilliant.

In your case I would have thought a visit to Glen Garry was a must

On a sunny day the view is amazing

If you're taking the camper watch the roads if you're heading up around Duntulm - the "main road" is about the width of your van

Nearly lost it a few hours ago, two wheels came off the edge, into the muck, very very lucky I got it back on the road. The road is JUST as wide as the van. And no more.

Hope you are OK Gary.

Might have been a job for the Bongo?

Take care uo there.
