I honestly thought most people didn’t use landlines nowadays. I have read that the BT shop does some good ones.
We only have the landline for incoming calls. The mobiles have unlimited calls/texts for £6 per month.
Thats mostly it, relations who are elderly and won't use a mobile! I haven't spoken to my BIL for over year, since we told people we were not going to have a landline, he won't even text!I keep thinking about losing ours, the only people who ever call us on it are our parents.
I dont have a house phone - have a number for Broadband but no phone plugged in
Sounds familiar, works great. We have a BT8600 which does the job
I've never had a mobile contract, I've only ever had PATG and spend next to nothing on them so I know nothing about contracts so where can I get a contract for unlimited calls for £6 a month?
I had a quick google and ended up on a comparison site...

Looking at that I could get a contract there for £6 a month but you need to buy the phone from them for anything from under £200 to over £1400, for example with a 12 month contract at £6 a month costing £802.
Is that right? So it's not really £6 a month it's £66 (802/12 =£66 per month or even 802/12+6=£72 per month?) but I suppose you can get something back by selling the phone at some point? Or have I missed something?
I'm interested in how Mrs WW and her friends communicate, they all use video calling aps which seem to work very well but other than that we're with Virgin and the cost per month is astronomic but they bundle things together so you can't really drop things you don't want without losing things you do need.
Are you with BT Brian? Or do you use the BT8610 with A.N.Other provider? We use a BT8610, it's great for blocking annoying calls. I turned call blocking off at the weekend because we were waiting to hear from the NHS about our COVID-19 jabs & were not sure how they would get in touch. Within 8 hours I received 3 calls from Amazon telling me I had bought an iPad
We eventually received text messages regarding our jabs, so call blocking is back on now as I don't want any more iPads........
My daughter & son in law have a landline as part of their BT Broadband package & don't have a phone plugged in.
We are with BT for broadband and landline, Sky for TVAre you with BT Brian? Or do you use the BT8610 with A.N.Other provider?
We both switched from PAYG to a SIM deal on here. Vodafone are doing a good one.

Thanks. What does data mean? Downloading stuff? I assume if we just use a phone for calls there's no data?

Not just downloading. Apps use data, if you' re using your phone to access the forum, you're using data (unless you're on wifi)
Thanks guys.Data is the connection to the internet. Even when you aren’t doing anything your phone will consume data by updating apps, checking for email, updating the weather etc.
Thanks guys.
If I did this it'd be with a dedicated phone so there'd be no downloading but I don't think I'll be able to do it for two reasons, firstly Virgin probably wont disentangle the phone from the package we have and secondly because we have an elderly person who just wont be able to use a smartphone, we've tried before.
