Can someone tell me how to improve someone's skin tone, warm them up a little WITHOUT warming the entire image? or adding a slight tan to the skin only.. iv been using LR2 with a brush tool but with only varied results, iv used the Sponge tool in PS3 and wasnt happy with the results..

So, is there an easy-ish way to get good results??

Thanks in advance..

In Lr or in Ps? In Ps an adjustment layer is easy to create. In Lr, go to the HSL panel and tweak the saturation and luminance of the skin tone.

I have an action that loads the red channel to play around with.

Red channel to adjust but it is the highlights and shadows that make the difference (of the red channel). Masking is the best way I have found.

I used LR a lot but have found that PS is easier with masks so have got a new belief in it.

Thanks for that, iv used the HSL before with no so pleasing results, also it seems to effect the rest of the image, id like to be able to adjust ONLY the skin.. perhaps i need to be a little more careful and try again..

Im interested in the Ps3 adjustment layer method, if you could tell me more? :D

Lr will shift all colours the same in the image. The only way to work on a particular area is to use Ps and masks.

So a time consuming task then if you have many images to do..

Yep.

Portraiture (paid for plugin, not cheap) allows you to do this very quickly, as it'll target the existing skin tones and allow you to warm them up, but ideally you still need to use it in conjunction with a mask as it also affects other areas of the image as well.

Along with the other suggestions above you can also use

Gradient Maps
Curves
Colour layers and blending modes

But they all still need a mask to make sure they hit the right spot.

Capture NX has a tool for exactly this purpose, no gradient maps, layers or blending, just a simple lasso with drop down sliders...:)
