:Dhey all...

ok so im heading out to the beautiful french mountins at the end of febuary, to go skiing for a week or two...(money allowing) and i was planning on hiring a lens or two, so i could get some great shots when over there....

i currently have a canon 40d, with a nifty 50, and a 50mm macro lens..., 3 old manual focus primes, 200, 300, 500 but nothing else...

last time i went was two years ago, and before i had a camera, so i have no idea what il need...

what would you guys recomend? id love to take some great landscape shots, and a couple of good action shots of verios friends snowboarding away, :)

so with all your expertise, recomend me some lenses:D

a 70-200 is super useful, but you can get most snowboard/ski shots with the 50 if you are standing in the right place. the 50 is also fine for landscapes if you take a bunch of shots and stitch them together into a pano.

Yep, you seem pretty covered be honest; especially if money is tight. However, if you want some shots from a distance the MF's won't help, so maybe a Canon 70-200 L is in order?

as for anything else helpful, remember to add a little eposure compensation to keep the snow white and 1/1000th shutter speed is key to freezing action.

Longer is better. You dont want to be in the middle of the piste with a 40d in your hand

A circular polariser will put some zing in the skies too if the sun is out

70-200 f2.8L is my go to lens for snowboarding outdoors.

im sure the F4 would do if the sun is mostly out you wouldnt particularly need the faster lens, but then again if you have the cash i would. :p

Faster focussing, not all snowboarding is bluebird days etc ;)

But yes, if the sun is out the f4 is fine.
