So they can take your money... :)

One of the biggest problems I had on my photography course was the ridiculously long times given to produce work... I work much better to a deadline as I tend to go on instinct rather than try to deconstruct the project too much...
I found if I used all the time alotted, I'd often end up with nothing...and a major *******ing from the tutor...

What you have to do is create artificial deadlines for each phase of the project and adhere to them as if your life depended on it...

Why not go to your favourite place (obviously this will have to be somewhere local to you so already probably rules out your actual favourite) once a week for 12 weeks, and take one different shot or perspective each week - this will concentrate your mind on trying to get something different each time (and maybe also the styles of shot) and just work on that image for the week.

That way it will be a challenge, getting more difficult each week as more and more alternatives are ruled out

NCFE by any chance?
Yep.

Sorry, but I wanted to learn how to take pictures, and what all the buttons did on my camera, and how things intereacted........i.e. ISO goed up, shutter speed comes down, at the expense of increased noise, White balance etc etc.........

If I wanted to project manage, I'd go back to Aviva........ they uised to take about 12 weeks to make a decision on anything!!!

Not the tutors fault, just soul destroying........ numbers dropped form 12 to about 3, so what does that tell you?

Also if I am researching photos online, shall i do it on my own PC with a 8 Mb connection, or in some crappy classroom on a slow shared network running old stuff....

That's a good point - wonder if I can wangle a 12 week all expenses trip to Cape Town......... , at the moment though none of the topics inspire me, i don'tlike turning taking a photo into a project, and I am tempted to tell them to ram it.

If I am going to be bitterly honest I have learnt more in my 13 months form the helpful souls on here (and Pentax user) than on the course proper! ..........

I think it very much depends on the tutor to be honest. We went from a tutor who expected us to work it all out from handouts and websites to one who set up projects and told us information but didn't really help us with putting together the workbook or portfolio to one who was a really good all-rounder.

Oh and if your college is anything like the one I did it at not only was the connection very slow we couldn't access most of the photography websites due to the retrictions on what you were allowed to look at. We couldn't even access Talk Photography!!

Level two I found more interesting but mainly did it to meet new people and get out of the house one night a week so I didn't end up being a hermit.
