Hi
My daughter is off to Malaysia next month and ends up in Singapore! Anyone been there and bought any camera equipment? What are the prices like out there? Could you recommend any shops? Can only afford tamron/Sigma, something like the Sigma 150-500!!

theres another thread like this somewhere - on there it was said that camera equipment is much cheaper out there - only thing to watch out for is import tax on return

Am from singapore! you can check out clubsnap.com

Should be able to get back the 7% tax for the goods, try to get the camera stuff from the shops at Peninsula Plaza at City Hall Train station, and not at Sim Lim Square (BEWARE!).

Be sure to walk around the area and ask for prices of the lens you are interested :)

If you compare Singapore prices against our prices here, cameras are generally £50 cheaper over there.

Edit:
AVOID SimLim square, Orchard road (Lucky PLaza), Chinatown - rip offs and dodgy merchants, prices seem right because of the $ sign, but when you pay, they will charge you $US and not $SG. I know this because I worked there for 4 years.

Edit 2:
This one is a good place to buy from:

Check out the shops at peninsula plaza and funan it mall (just side by side to each other :D). Used to get my stuffs over there. Like what strobe monkey said. Avoid those places which he listed.
