Hi all

I'm looking to buy a Canon 7D and a Canon 24-105 f/4 IS.

I've priced them at a few outlets, Martins Camera shop which I've used before has this combo at £1959, good prices with with excellent service.

I've checked Kersos' prices which comes to £1831 as I'd be paying with paypal (+1.5%)

And then on Simply Electronics it's £1745 (have a £15 off promo code)

I've heard they're a HK company but on there website they say they ship from the UK

So it looks a good deal. Anyone had any dealings with them, what do you think.

cheers

The search button is your friend but I would RUN AWAY:exit:

Go with Kerso

hi there.
I have bought from this company. they are here in the uk but what they sell comes by DHL from hong kong. delivery is very quick though.

I might add I've bought stuff from them too, a couple of lenses and a flash. Delivery wasn't particularly fast for me.

Just make sure that you read their t&c's well. I would neither recommend them or criticise them based on my experience. You need to decide whether the potential extra hassle is worth it (should something go wrong) for the sake of getting a lower price.

THere's another recent thread with very mixed reviews..... Buy from Kerso..... A much more secure purchase from a top guy.

Hmmm. there website is pretty convincing, 0844 number, pictures of european call centers etc.
I'm sort of leaning towards ordering with Kerso as I know alot of TPers have bought loads off him without any hassle but the lure of an extra saving is tempting

I'll do some searching, no hurry :)

i used them in feb to buy a 580exii as their price was then unbeatable, their claim to deliver in 2-3 days is wide of the mark it took more like 8-10 days, their prices have since gone up significantly,if you do buy from them don't forget to go through quidco for cashback

Steer clear, they ship from HK and if you want't to cancel or return for refund you will wait for ages. As said, I'd go with Kerso.

As far as I'm aware the price is based on evading import duty and VAT so there is a risk the parcel will be intercepted and you'll be landed with both of those costs plus a handling charge. There might even be a small risk of confiscation if a false declaration has been made by SE.
Digigood on ebay have supplied loads of Canon stuff to my clients from UK at vey good prices.

Use your local camera outlet before they all disappear, they will usually price match reputable web sites eg mine price matches camera warehouse..

if you are lucky its very quick, if you're not they are truely shocking. They also make considerable efforts to look like theyt're in the UK but if you googlemap there address its a residential house.

Avoid like the plague

As others have said, do a quick search here. Feedback seems to indicate they either deliver fast and efficient, or they don't deliver at all. In my case, I had to claim everything back through the CC company. Customer Care was none existent.

I'd avoid.

Ian.

I bought my 24-105L from them and can honestly say that they were absolutely fine to deal with. I ordered from them as it looked to me like they were UK based and the website is pretty convincing, as you state, however shortly after ordering I read a load of horror stories, which got me worried. I contacted Vanessa there and asked her to rush my order through as I was going to India and wanted the lens for the trip. She did just that and I received my lens about 7-8 days after ordering.

Having just been in the market for a 7D, I considered buying from them again, but in the end I bought from Kerso. The decider for me wasn't the average/bad reviews on Simply Electronics, as I'd already had a good experience with them, the true decider was that I would get a warranty that Canon will honour in the UK, which for a £1,100 camera was important to me. Although I haven't had any problems with any of the Canon gear I've got, there's always a first time, and I didn't fancy going through the rigmarole of having to potentially send the camera back to HK for fixing and being without it for 3-4 weeks.

For the sake of less than £100 in your case, I think this Kerso would be the better route to go - very smooth transaction guaranteed with him and UK warranty for all your kit. No brainer.

BTW - great choice of kit - I absolutely love my 24-105L (considered the 24-70L but preferred the extra range over f/2.8) and I take 80+% of my pics with it - super sharp with my 7D.

Thx for the input guys, I did a search this morning and it's a pretty mixed bag.

I really couldn't be bothered with trying to deal with a HK company in the event of a problem. So I'm going to give it a miss and probably order from Kerso.

Cheers danski, I've been mulling it over for a while. This gives me a weather resistant combo which will come in handy up here in rain drenched Scotland plus I have my Canon 10-22 for the wider end when the sun pops out :D

use it if you don't mind waiting for over 2 weeks for your gear (and possibly over 1 month for a refund..)

7D body, HDEW cameras, includes 3 years warranty and next day delivery, £1099,
Jim

Now that is very tempting Jim, the 24-105 is £699 there too. Very tempting indeed.

Aye  sorry maybe it would be more convincing if it was Indian call centers ;)

As you are in Fife and so is Kerso at Buckhaven, I would have thought the answer is obvious !
Email Ian and get his best price usually less than Ebay as well.
C

For those interested I ordered from Kerso today. I'm now like a kid waiting for Santa Claus ;)
