As I'm looking t get a new camera body I really fancy a 7DmkII but at almost £1300 I'm not sure the wife will like that idea when I could get a 70D at just over £700... then buy a nice 2nd hand lens :)

But seeing Simply Electronics are doing a 7DmkII under £800 with free delivery I'm quite tempted to go the camera I'd really like.. as the price is good.

I bought a Nissin 622i mkII flash gun from them a few years back and had no problem.. but that was only £99.

what's ppls thoughs on spending £800 on a 7DmkII.
I've seen other son here have bought from them.. so what to do?

why so much cheaper than me looking in London Camera Exchange?

Wow Mark that was faster than I speeding bullet

forum search for the top three, and "simply electronics problems" in google for the rest.

As to

why so much cheaper than me looking in London Camera Exchange?

well - it's simple - they'll be selling "grey imports" - and because of this, I fully expect the thread to become choked with a discussion of the morality (or otherwise) of purchasing from a company that may or may not be avoiding/evading payment of duties and or taxation to HMG - because, well, pretty much every thread that mentions grey imports goes exactly the same way, and spirals into the inevitable thread-lock.

I ordered from them back in May. I wanted a nice compact for the summer so went for a Canon G7X. At the time, the cheapest price I could find was Amazon at £399. Simply Electronics was £284. The transaction was faultless, good communication from them and a tracking number sent and if I remember correctly delivery was about 10 days which was far quicker than they'd originally said. I also got a UK charger and manual.

Last time I used them was a few years ago and, as you'll more than likely see from the above threads, my abiding memory is poor communication and next to no tracking. So, if you don't mind sweating a bit then go for it :)

ps the lens I ordered arrived safe and sound a few days after the stated delivery estimate.

Seems they've come on leaps and bounds in the last few years!

ok, mixed views then.

next question..... where do you guys buy your gear from to get best price etc?

Do I go for a 7DmkII and at just over £800 seems a good deal or spend £1300 on the same thing from a local shop?

I've never heard of them, (Panamoz) but if UK stocked and delivered its a good deal.
Not UK stocked, or delivered, but it depends on whether or not you are up for saving £500 and a 3 year warrantyinc.
Of course the second hand value will also be lower, and possibly harder to sell on, but if you intend to "keep it" for a few years, its a non issue.

I really don't get why the second hand value would be lower. A [insert description of device of interest] is a [insert description of device of interest] is a [insert description of device of interest] whatever its origins.

If I was given a [insert description of device of interest] for free then I wouldn't expect to have to give it away for free when it came time to replace it.

I agree, but Tis Human nature, if you look around the classifieds, one of the first things people ask ( normally) is it a UK model / sourced.
As the prices tend to be 1/3rd ( sometimes more) lower, new, they expect to pay 1/3rd less of UK sourced ones on the second hand market.

Plus some ( maybe all) companies won't take "grey imports" as part exchange, because of the "tax" thing.
Which is obviously their prerogative.
