Hi there,

i'll be going to the MotoGP at Silverstone this year (as if i wouldn't), just wondering if you guys know good spectating areas for muggles to take pics from? :)
btw, i've only got a 75-300mm lens, so distance is gonna be an issue either way.

Hi Cliff im no expert of Silverstone especially as you may know the circuit is changing this year but a good possibilty is the new arena area, also if you get a Platinum/Gold ticket for the three days the Friday/Saturday gives you access relevant to what ticket you buy and a seat for race day Platinum under cover Gold not. Also look at the Silverstone website this may help you further.
Chris;)

Question: Can I just roll in with a camera around my neck at any circuit or do I need a pass even if I'm just a spectator?

You're fine to take shots from the spectator area.

At the OP. I think the best place for you with that lens would be what would now be the outside of the left hander leading onto the club straight.

In it's current form you're close enough for a 250mm lens as they come onto that straight. You're held back about 7 metres from the armco by a small fence/bar.

Hopefull you'll still be able to get there for the moto gp, I see no reason why not unless they're using it as a paddock overflow.

The grandstands at Vale/Club would probably also be close enough, but there's a lot of high fencing.

My advice.....
Stay at home and watch it on the telly, Silverstone must be the worst track to spectate, or hire a 600mm for the day.

Luffield, Club or Abbey you can get close too, but since I last went they may have put even more fencing up.
