Hi all
I'm off to the moto gp on Friday and Saturday.
Friday I'll be hanging around the luffield area but I'm after some advise on where to go on the Saturday.
Silverstone is quite new to me and would appreciate any help from locals or anyone with any experience there.

Where else is worth heading to for shooting ???

Thanks in advance

Chris

what lenses you got? in some area's you really far away now :(
if you can get onto the stands then i did find one for the inside of circuit at becettes you could see the inner loop new bit, if you where at the far end of stands and looked to your side/behind

I have a sigma 120-400 and sigma 70-200 2.8

Unfortunately I have no advice to give - but I will be around Club corner on race day as a spectator. As a newbie I'll probably be taking some blurry photos of the back end of bikes as they pass me...

Enjoy!

Areas I've been in the past are:

1) Inside of Vale corner, standing right up against the fence to try and focus past it

2) Inside of Copse where they exit the pits (remember MotoGP use the old pit lane, not the Wing)

3) Outside of Luffield

4) My personal favourite is the inside of Brooklands. You have to get right up to the fence but you'll get shots of the riders braking and leaning in at a decent speed.

5) There is a hole-in-the-fence at the end of the Becketts complex if I remember correctly. You do need all 400mm of your Sigma's reach for that spot though.

This year I'm going to try and get to the infield area between Stowe and Vale. It should be accessible as the Wing isn't being used so no need for silly security in that area for MotoGP. I just want the shots of the riders lifting the front wheels as they exit Stowe and start heading downhill.

Here is that from the 'other side'

Hopging for much better results this year.

The Outside and Inside of Beckets ain't bad either

peter, were these shot through fence at maggotts/ becketts?

There's a camera hole on the outside of Beckett most were shot from there with a 300mm and 2x TC. Shot 2 was taken from the inside of Beckett from the marshal hut

How do you go about focusing such a shot please?.

How do you go about focusing such a shot please?.

Camera setting, set to AIservo, TV shutter priority, set shutter speed to 1/focal length of your lens. Focus on the subject early, keep half button press, or back focusing (read up about that, requires setting up in custom functions), pan with subject until it start to fill you view finder, when the subject fill 2/3 or 3/4 of the frame, take 2-3 images remembering to continue panning smoothly with the subject, keep panning after you've taken the last shot. Remember about feet position so you can twist your body in an arc and shutter settings are important, start of with a faster shutter speed, then reduce it as you get more comfortable with the smooth panning action.
