Have taken the plunge and purchased LR6. I have also been recommended the above piece of software as the dogs doodahs for monochrome conversion, but you can't seem to buy just the "silver" bit, you can only seem to buy the complete suite and I'm not that fussed about the rest of the suite. At £95 a pop I'm a bit reluctant to shell out for it.

But now I have LR do I need it ? Can LR do what Silver Efex does ? Can I get free presets to do the same ?

Any advice much appreciated

Pete

You may not want the rest now, I thought the same, but there are several other very useful parts of the suite. Having said that I think Silver Efex Pro is worth that on it's own, and if you Google for a Nik discount code you can usually get 15% off.

It's good value at £95, though as has been said you can get it cheaper. It used to cost nearly £250 before it was bought out by Google. One of the great features of the Nik suite is the ability to apply the effects via control points.

The other "bits" are quite useful, I often use the sharpener bit, the analogue effects bit and the define bit..

They offer great flexibility and I love the control points that allow you to add the effect to differnt parts of the image, £95 well spent in my book.

It's likely that LR will get you very close to SFX results, but it may require more work to achieve it.

The macphun software for b&w conversion is good too ( I have both). SFX for deep stuff, macphun for quicker stuff

It's worth every penny, you will not be disappointed

Many thanks for all your replies, seems like you're all trying to spend my money, but at least I now know.

Thanks again,

Pete
