I must be doing something wrong I usually take my photos using raw, now i want to post some of these into my talk photography gallery I managed some by using export and setting to jpeg but now when in raw and i want to save a image it only seems to give me the option of a dng file:bang: their must be a easy way:help:

16 bit, I tried save after dropping the tab to 8 bit but it did not seem to work must have done something wrong?

when the raw file opens beneath the picture in the centre its says depth with a drop down arrow which you can change to 8 bit, I think I am in the wrong place here.

Open the raw file into CS4 and click on Image>Mode>8 bits/channel (That' in CS£ but It's unlikely to have changed) then try saving as a jpeg. You can't save as jpeg direct from Adobe Camera Raw

you better tell that to my versions of it then :p

You can. Sorry Marc :p

Aztec....when you open it, I suggest carrying through ACR into CS4 proper and resizing before saving as a jpg and as Marc says, make sure mode is 8bit too though i have mine set to do that as default from ACR anyway - just dont ask me how I did it, because I have no idea, but I can save as jpg from either ACR or CS4 [and previously CS3].

Also for posting on the web use the sRGB colour space.

thanks for help though their must be an easier way to get my pics uploaded to the forum gallery I know when I alter image such as save for web it gives you qulity options ie via the slider but cant see how the image size is effected in the photo to conform to the 300kb allowance maybe I will try again tonight after the match

You need to resize. Use the crop tol in photoshop and enter "600px" in the box where you have your longest edge (i.e. you want 600 pixels either wide for a landscape or tall for a portrait) and 72 in the resolution box.

Take the crop tool drag over the whole image press enter and this will resize your image for decent web dimensions. Now when you "save as" you get to choose the quality - I usually choose about 7 or 8 (keeping the file below 100Kb).

takes about 10 seconds to do.

Are you exporting direct from the RAW or via photoshop.

it's very simple from either.

What you can't do is save a jpg from a 16bit image in Photoshop - so if you export your raw to Ps as 16bit, you need to convert to 8bit to save as a jpg.
