Well it probably sounds silly to most of you big strapping lads but for me its a real irritant!

Bought a Lowepro Mini trekker at Focus on Sunday & though Im really pleased with it, I have one major niggle ... all the goddamn straps!

I know they have to ensure that one size fits all but, now Ive altered the tension of the straps to fit me, I have all these hanging excess, strappy bits flapping about.
Id like to trim them off but think they'd fray, any ideas anyone?

:woot: Hmmm....... SILLY BAG QUESTION.

Is that a question by a silly bag?? :D

You could either:

1. wrap up the ends and put a small elastic band round the strap.

OR

2. put on some weight, so there are no ends left!! :woot:

Some of them you can tuck back into their own clips Glo - sort of double them back if you know what I mean. When I'm carrying the bag without the waist strap done up I usually loop it up through the shoulder straps and then clip it back together - that stops it dangling too much. If you do decide to trim them then get a box of matches and seal the ends of each one as you trim it - they're nylon so should just melt. However, remember also that if for any reason you decide to part with the bag it might not be any good to anyone else afterwards with the straps permenantly shortened!

put some beef on

or, trim them and melt the ends with a lighter/hot knife?

You will note that I resisted the temptation to ask that!!

Thanks for that, Witch & Dod .... and Janice ;)
I do feel wary about doing anything drastic with them, in case I ruin the bag.
Hmmm! wonder if a cobbler would run a bit of stitching across them for me if I snipped them off.

Hi Glo,
Before you cut them, put on your thickest jumper and jacket and then fit bag on and measure straps. You'll kick yourself if you cut them too short! Cut and then seal edge with a lighted match. They melt easily. Glad you like the bag.

Pah, what you bothered about......you'll not use it anyway :D

I would also suggest that after you've tried the bag on with your thickest clothes on, you also leave enough strap left to allow the strap to be loosened enough to get the bag off.....or you'll find out what it's like to be a turtle or other shelled creature

you'll probably manage to cut 2" off them......... :D

I had the same problem when I put my infantry bergan on when going on exercise with the ATC. Was a skinny lad, well still am really. Best way I found to deal with it was to role them up really tight, and wrap electrical tape around the role perpendicular to the way you just rolled it up. Makes for easy to adjust in the future, and also means you don't damage the bag in any way.

Woody :)

Thanks again for your help peeps... probably end up doing Woody's suggestion ... or I might just practise on that dreadful 'other' bag I have first;)

DF .... what do you mean ... all of 2" .... how godamn big do you think I am!:bat:

If you butcher the straps, then have a problem with the bag in the future, lowepro may be reluctant to help you with any loss.

Typical woman response

Just have a look at how much slack you actually need to get the bag on and off your back

........did i get away with that?

Hey Houdini :)

Just remember your words when you've been out for a day with the bag on your back and your knackered......you might be glad of a bit of slack ;)
