sigma or nikon 70 - 200 vr2

Hi guys as title suggests really - i have used the nikon vr2 with and without the 1.7 convertor and i am very very impressed the images were stunning - just wondering has anyone compared this to the sigma of the same length? with nearly 1k price difference it is huge - but i do think personally the vr2 quality is brilliant, will be for use on d300 to replace my 70-300 when i sell it

any helps or advice on this one would be great

The Sigma is pretty poor by comparison - as you would expect for a 1k difference...
 
yer expected as much - it will be the nikon i would go for but was curious as to why sigma were almost so far behind or nikon so far in front with quality
 
Sigma don't really market the same stuff - I am sure if they really wanted to they could compete (if they spent enough money!) but generally they make something in between Canon/Nikon's bottom end stuff and the pro-end stuff.

The product and the price reflects this - but I think its deliberate on their part.
 
I'd recommend the VR2 I have the VR1 and it's the dogs danglys :-)
