Sigma 105mm f/2.8 EX DG Macro

Sigma 150mm f/2.8 EX DG APO HSM

I'm after a Sigma macro lens and not sure which one to go for.

Many thanks.:)

Lisa

I have the 150mm and really like it. It has the high speed motor focusing, which makes it quicker and the longer reach of 150mm is very useful for insects and stuff...

I bought the 105mm with a bit of trepidation as I'm not really a Sigma fan, but I've been really impressed with just how sharp it is. The 150mm is probably better for insects and the like, but it is quite a lot heavier/more expensive.

I have recently bought a "pre-owned" 105mm f/2.8 (I couldn't afford a new one or the 105mm).

I have only used it a few times, but I am really pleased with my attempts at Macro photography so far.

Had I been in a position to do so, I would probably have bought the 150mm. It makes sense to get the lens with the longer reach if you can.

It depends on how far you want to take this style of photography I suppose. I may decide to upgrade in the future, but I don't know yet.

Best of luck in deciding (and look forward to seeing your results in due course).

Another vote for the 150mm Macro here. I have had its for 6 months and use it quite alot. I love the working distance and will be adding a 1.4 TC to mine to increase the working distance even further.

105mm siggy for me - the 150mm was a bit big & heavy for me (105 min focus distance 31.1cm & 460g - 150mm min focus 38cm and 895g)

150mm on a monopod with ball head gets my vote

I,ve got both but use the 150 the most for the reach, but it does need a tripod or at least a monopod
both have great IQ

I've only borrowed the 150 to use on my D60 but I loved it and will get one as soon as I can afford it. It is a heavy beast though but no problem on a decent tripod.

Hi

Thanks for all the replies. I am pretty sure I'm going to go with the 105. ;)

Kind regards.

Lisa

another vote for the 105 siggy,a great lens...but as been said, the 150 will give you more distance between the lens and subject...handy for insects.

here's a shot with the 105.....

Only been into DSLR for 6 months but got a Sigma 150 after a lot of research and as my mate "Lookup" says, it is a beast and worth every penny. Fantastic lens but works better with a tripod.

Sigma 105mm f/2.8 EX DG Macro at £237.49 with Discount Code from Jessops looks very inviting.
