Hi All,
I'm thinking of getting a sigma 18-200 lens for my Nikon D70s,my question is are they any good? before I buy.
cheers

Tricky question, people often complain about Sigma, but they do have some great lenses in their line up (the 150mm 2.8 being a great example). Some of their more flexible lenses such as the 18-200 tend to be a good comprimise between quality and price. As a walk around lens 18-200 is a very handy range and if this is the best you can afford, go for it.

The larger the focal range, the larger the compromise. Personally I dislike a 'one-lens-for-all-occasions' approach, but in some cases I can see when they are useful. If you could split the range into 2, with a 18-50 and 70-300 or 70-200 I think you'd get better results, but it depends on whether changing lenses is an option!

however the nikon 18-200vr seems to get good reviews and IQ, sharpness seems just as good as most shorter focal kit lenses on the nikon but then again the cost is huge compared to the sigma

Thanks for the replies I will have to look into it in more depth first then.
cheers

I think this is a fair summary. However it's worth noting that, judging from the reviews, the Sigma 18-200 OS (Optically Stabilised) is considerably better than the older non-OS version.
