Looking to get a middle of the road lens to cover 70 - 300

SIGMA LENS 70-300mm 70-300 , F4-5.6 DG MACRO

or

SIGMA LENS 70-300mm 70-300 , F4-5.6 APO DG MACRO

What are your thoughts?

2nd one is £30 more :)

I have the 70-300mm APO good lens, and better.

I am getting shoot of mine tho as i need a better lower light lens, and have the 50-500mm, which is as better then the 300mm and never got into macro.

At 300mm those lens get abit soft.

Oooo, im looking to pair this with the little 400D for day to day stuff.

The 1D is getting a special treat soon ;)

When you looking at shifting your sigma?

Its a great lens for that these where taken with mine, on the 350d in poor light at night i should add, cant find the rest during the day as the hard drive failed on pc

Exellent, as you can imagine, dont want to spend huge amounts on the 400 side of things, but a light and smallish cam to take on days out, sort of thing.

I can get the APO for £140 delivered. Now should I??? hehe

This was with that APO version on the 30D last year....

I'd only had it a couple of weeks at that point and was smitten from then on! I've only rarely used the macro switch on it and have now upgraded it to the canon 70-200 in my sig. I did have it back on the camera today (When I'd prised it out of the other half's hands, that is!) though.

Got mine now, and I must say im very impressed already, Sigma seem to do such a good job.

vote here for the apo too, i had it and it can be very good, underated i think!

Get the apo version, I didnt and soooooo wish I did, towards the 300mm end the images can be a bit soft and it suffers from purple fringing a fair amount.

i really wish i hadn't read this topic as i followed that ebay linked and my mouse accidently clicked on the buy it now button and i am now £139 lighter lol. cant wait to have a little play with it when it arrives now :D

mine was delivered by UPS this morning, took a few test shots and i'm very impressed so far. lookinf forward to trying it out properly soon.

I bought a Sigma 70-300 4-5.6 APO secondhand some 10 yrs ago for my EOS50e. Not sure if it is exactly the same lens as you're talking about but certainly looks like it. I've been having trouble with it recently, it wouldn't auto focus. Showed MF on the screen even when switched to AF. After the last few days taking my Finepix 4900 and computer to bits I got a bit blase and whipped the mount and cover off it. I found that the switch slide was not engaged with the actual electric slide switch inside. Quick adjustment and it now works fine again. I get good results from it.

Of course now I've checked it out and mine is obviously the pre-digital one so not quite the same, sorry for the confusion.
