So I've had a weird issue a couple of times and I seem to have narrowed it down to one thing, but it simply makes little sense to me.

When shooting with my Sigma 70-200 2.8 (one of the older ones, I think it was the version before the the macro one) The camera will randomly report that the cards are empty, they show 0 shots remaining, with 1 taken in the brackets, the same as when he card is formatted. There's no -e- on the top LCD so the cards are present and you can view the images on the card in preview, so the camera is reading the card. The only way to get it going again is to take a card out and put it back in, even turning the camera off and on doesn't clear it. It's also happened on different cards. The top LCD also doesn't show any exposure info while this is happening, no shutter speed/aperture etc. After clearing the error, I can carry on shooting on the same cards with no problem.

This has only happened with this lens on this body, never happened with any other lens. It happened straight away yesterday after swapping to the 70-200 after shooting with an 85 perfectly for around 6 hours. This lens has had another issue on my 2 other bodies, in which it would stop auto focusing, an issue that's only resolved by dismounting the lens and reattaching it, weirdly this error has never happened on the D3

Can a lens error cause the body to do this? It screams to me that it's a body issue, but I've managed thousands of shots with other lenses and it's only ever happened with this lens. When it happened yesterday straight after swapping to it, it really made me think it was the lens, what do we think? My latest thoughts are dodgy contacts perhaps?

Could the lens be causing even a minor electrical issue to occur within the camera body?
It is easy for this to cause quite random errors in microprocessor equipment.

Thank you for the reply gramps :) yes that was one of my other trains of thought, but just seemed odd to me! Well I have been hankering after a Nikon VRII in this focal length so I'm willing to try swapping it to see if it fixes the issue :p:D
