The Sigma site lists all its lenses with which its teleconverter is compatible. Sigma's 70-300 F4-5.6 APO DG Macro is not included in the list. I'm not sure if this is because the lens is discontinued. My question is - are they compatible, or should I steer clear of this teleconverter? The supplier, when asked, referred me to the Sigma site.

The lens may well be compatable with the teleconvertor but I wouldn't advise doing it. Remember that when using a X1.4 will lose 1 stop and a X2 will lose 2 stops, making the lens either f6.7 or f8 which will only be usable on bright sunny days as you will need a shutter speed of at least 500 second at the ling end of the zoom.

Thanks Wile E. coyote. Are you effectively saying that this lens is too slow to use with ANY teleconverter?

Pretty much, doesn't autofocus stop working when the lens aperture gets that high also, due to a lack of light?

So I would be better off buying a long prime lens?

I think it stops at anything beyond f5.6(or certainly becomes very hit and miss) Although you can push it a bit more with a Pro body as far as I know.

Thanks for the responses. I now see last year's thread as oper BobR's link.
