I've got a Nikon d3100 and I want to get more focal length. I've got a 55-300 lens, but I find I'm too far away.

What combo would give me the best IQ?

Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 with a 2x teleconverter
Sigma 50-500mm
Sigma 150-500mm

The 70-200mm will only reach 400mm, but I think will be faster.

What will be the heaviest?

Any idea where the best place to look for the non os 50-500mm are?

Lots of the os versions out there and out of my price range and non-os isn't an issue for me.

Again, my other option would be the 2x but would be worried about image quality.

Recently used a 150-500 for a few days, was impressed with it overall.

I would go for the large zooms over the smaller one and a 2x tc.

I have the 150-500os version and love it,the quality is brilliant and it weighs about 4 lbs so I brought a monopod at the same time. I have found filters on Amazon to fit and these were £20,I brought this new last year from Cameraworld and it was around the £700 mark, there were some on eBay at the same time but they went for nearly £600 so I went for new. The f5.6 may not be the quickest but I think the extra focal length is worth it.

you mean f6.3 at 500mm, and get rid of the filter.
