Im in tge market for another 70-200 lens, ive had a Canon L f4 in the past and was going to buy another but had a play with a friends Sigma 2.8 today and found it much better than expected so decided to go for the sigma 2.8.

Thing is, looking around online, ive found a few for sale in UK used dealers and found that theres only about £100 difference in the HSM2 and the HSM OS. Is there any discernable IQ difference in these 2 lenses or is it simply one has stabilisation and one doesn't?

I'm not that bothered by a stabilisation feature in all honestly, but I would pay the extra for better overall IQ and stabilisation which would come in handy occasionally.

Sigma has made various 70-200s over the years, but currently only lists one - 70-200 2.8 OS.

It's the best by far, a very good lens by any measure, and brilliant value.

Hi,

Sadly I've not tried the OS version, but I do have the HSM II which I picked up here second hand and its no slouch - see my set here.

I have the OS version for both my Pentax K-5II and 7D, it's a great lens and takes the 1.4x converter very well. I had the Canon MKI EF 70-200mm IS and after picking up the Sigma for a very keen price (used) and comparing the 2 lenses I kept the Sigma and sold the Canon.

Edit: Shot taken today at 200mm f2.8 on the 7D (Approx 50% crop)

Thanks for the replies. The OS version I was looking at was gone so went for the HSM2 anyway.
