Has anyone here for a canon fit and how you rate it pls. Been toying on getting one as can't justify the cost of the canon version. But how much difference is there in quality. Is it quick at focusing.

I had a MKI Canon 70-200mmL 2.8 IS a while back and was happy enough with it but then someone offered me a Sigma OS 70-200mm for a very reasonable price so I bought that to compare the two. After extensive testing (including using teleconverters) I sold the Canon lens and kept the Sigma. IMO the Sigma is slightly better than the Canon (although I have no doubt the MKII L lens will be better again), it focuses fast and mine is sharp wide open @ 200mm (although it did need some slight focus adjustment).

Couple of examples, these were raw files converted to jpeg with a little processing.

200mm at f2.8

With 2x Canon teleconverter at 400mm f5.6

Just what I like to hear as the prices are these are good.

Can't help with the Canon version but I have the Sigma for my Nikon D90 and have been very pleased with it.

Quick to focus and great in low light.

I have the Canon version and it is excellent. Had the Canon 70-200 f4 L non IS previously and I believe the sigma is just as sharp

I have the Sigma 70-200 2.8 non-OS and I have to admit it's a very good lens. AF is not the fastest, most accurate or most consistent, but in good light where you give it half a chance, it's a good lens. On occasion, it's a GREAT lens. I can only image the newer versions are even better.

I looked at both a couple of years ago, the Sigma got very good reviews and was recommended to me. Then Canon launched the F2.8 mkii (with a lovely price!!!).

I thought about it, discussed it and decided the Canon was the lens I really wanted, my worry was I'd buy the Sigma and then end up selling it as I wanted to get the Canon version ...

My advice would be to think about what you ideally want and then save up for it and if you can, try them out and see which you prefer...

I did this with the UWA lens and for me, opted for the Sigma 10-20mm over the Canon version - for what I wanted and having tried them both, I liked the Sigma and opted for that.
