Hi all,

Bought myself some ebay triggers off ebay last week, which arrived this morning. Also ordered a Sigma 530 DG ST flash which, according to http://www.gadgetinfinity.com/product.php?productid=16766&cat=0&page=1 should be compatible.

Now, I've plugged everything in and get nothing from the flash. It seems the system works perfectly up to the point where the reciever should trigger the flash (ie. the light on the reciever appears when I hit the shutter button but no flash).

After a quick search on google, theres a few reports of the 530 ST not being compatible.

Anyone got any ideas how I can force it to work? Any quick mods around?

Cheers,
Andrew

Shooting totally in the dark but have you tried the flash in all it's different modes?

Make sure the batteries are in the right way, check that both the reciver and transmitter are on the same channel. Attach the receiver to your flash then switch it on.

Once this is all done try using the transmitters test button but don't attach the transmitter to the hotshoe. If this does fire the flash then try the transmitter from the flash.

The system will probably require a slightly slower shutter speed than your regular shutter speed to work properly.

Tried that - if I press the test button the red light on the reciever flickers indicating it is working ok and exactly the same happens if I then connect the transmitter to the camera hotshoe. In neither case does the flash fire regardless of shutter speed selected.

Seems odd - surely the reciever just puts a small charge through the hotshoe and the flash should fire?

Its annoying that I don't have another flash to test it out :(

Are you attaching the flash to the hotshoe on the receiver, or does it have a pc cord connection?

Okay.....

First thing to try is taking the battery cover off the receiver and see if that makes a difference.....

The sigma doesn't fire off the centre ground pin, which is what the triggers use. Sell your ST and get a second hand 550EX - you'll be in a far better position :-)

Ah - that would be why then! What would happen if I were to stick some foil to the bottom of the flash pins - would the receiver trigger charge spread to all the pins and fire the flash, or just fry the lot?

Does the flash have a PC socket - no. Reciever yes.

Just a stupid one but you have taken the very tight cover off the new batteries that come with the triggers. That one fooled me for around 15 minutes!!!!

Carl.

Lol, yep - definately. As I say, the system seems to be transmitting a signal perfectly, just doesn't transfer the trigger to the flash.

Been looking on the net for a wiring diagram for the flash hotshoe, but no luck......

I don't understand though - the camera passes a signal to the transmitter via the central pin (thats all the transmitter has), so you would assume the camera passes a signal through the central pin when the flash itself is connected. So why would the Sigma NOT recieve through the same - only to be awkward and force you to go for a more expensive unit I guess :(

I assume the flash works on camera?

Shot in the dark are trans and recv on the same channel?

Think the foil thing will fry the lot.

The second option sounds the most likely, unless you knew exactly which one was the trigger and covered the rest over with tape - rather you than me though :naughty:

That would certainly cause it

Does it have a pc terminal?

Been in the same boat, IIRC it doesn't have a PC terminal.

I'd be wary of messing with the contacts tbh - not worth it for the sake of getting £10 worth of triggers to work. I still say change your flash, wouldn't cost you much and you'd be in a better position all around
