No
For the majority of the time now, it basically wont focus, I can get it to focus if I turn the focus ring towards where the focus point should be then it will go for it, but sometimes I basically have to do it all manually, I have messed about changing to manual and back, removing the lens, swapping batteries, changing as much as I can.

I cannot figure out when it doesnt work, but sometimes it does it fine all on its own. :/

Any ideas?

I am using it on a 300D and a EOS5 with similar problems.

In all situations? I seem to remember that the bigma needs a fair bit of light to be able to focus properly.

If it is the lens at fault then your only option is to send it to SigmaUK for repair, they have a pretty quick turnaround but contact them first for prices etc.

If its the lens thats at fault then they can bloody well pay for it themselves :p its almost new.

And it isnt light, had more sun last weekend than mercury.

Sent it back, after 3 weeks (and no news from Sigma on timescales etc) I got it back all working. Letter said AF Reset.

Anyways, now, again... AF is totally dead, this time it wont even half work. Does the same on multiple bodies.

Bah :(

Anyone else having/had/heard of problems with this lens as such? I don't really want it if its going to continue like this.

ugh! time for a stiff letter to Sigma I think.

I agree - I have the same lens on a D200 and it has not let me down yet. I would go for a full replacement if they have failed to mend it first time around. Would be interested to hear the outcome. Good luck.

give them a ring and tell them, they should sort if for you!

Just sent it off today. Spoke to them yesterday, just said send it in with a description etc. Talking to them makes you feel like they don't give a toss. :/

It's going to cost me £20 to post, is it resonable for me to want this refunded?
First time, fair enough (well not really, its almost new), second time in a row I dont believe so...

Got a letter back acknowledging they have received the lens back.

In it, they say they basically won't pay my delivery. "We recommend getting your retailer to send it to us when lens is under warranty to minimise postage costs"

:/

I have this lens, and it AFs at all apertures on my 1D. If I find that it wont, I check the distance. If the AF drives the focus past infinity, you'll have to manually turn the focus back.

These lenses have some peculiarities, but even if it was only manual focus, it would still be a fantastic lens in my opinion:)

I think it's probably expired then.... will it work in AE mode??

I have this lens too, been very happy with the way way has been focus'ing. Much faster then my 70-300mm, and better then the canon kit lens on my 350d. it was even focus'ing faster in poor light at 500mm then my 70-300mm.

Hope you get it sorted and is a one off thing.

No, not used AE, just the usual settings on multiple bodies.

one off? this is the 2nd time its gone back ;)

Sorry mean't a one off duff lens, id be asking for a full replacement or money back tbh. Particurly if it goes duff again.

Sigma UK are not really being that helpful in regards to the refund of postage, so a replacement lens I doubt. I am contacting Sigma themselves to make a complaint basically about this service centre since the same error occured again so its either duff lens, in which they should replace it, or shoddy repair work.

Contacted Sigma US to make a complaint about this service centre etc and their attitude. My mistake there was that Sigma is Japanese ("Sigma Corporation") not American. Sigma Corportation have no email address on the site though... :/

Sigma UK directly are not being very helpful.

This lens was high on my birthday list :( . Problems can/will happen with any product but when the service sucks.......

ive found sigma to be quite helpful, is it under UK warrenty?
