Sigma 300mm f/2.8 EX DG APO HSM, Nikon Fit £879.00 second hand

There are multiple versions of the Nikkor, if its an AF-S or AF-I version go for that for sure.

I have the Sigma and am very happy with it. But I would go for the Nikon only if it was a VR version personally. The Nikon without VR isn't worth the extra over the Sigma as far as I'm concerned.

I would go for nikon vr most of all ,just thought of saving some money.:naughty:

As I say, I'd either go the whole hog on the 300VR or get the Sigma, the Nikon non-VR lenses aren't good enough over the Sigma to justify the extra outlay IMO.

Ill have wait till after my holidays before I get the Nikon then, the wife will kill me if I spend more money before then.

Wise decision wait till she more mellow after hols :).

Agreed, the 120-300 is an awesome lens. Its big though, one thing the Sigma 300mm f/2.8 has in its favour is that its remarkable compact for a 300mm f/2.8.

That's one of the reasons I went for the 300mm really. It's smaller and lighter, and I just knew I'd only use the zoom at the extremes. Having said that, I use the 300 with the 1.4tc on it pretty much 100% of the time.

I have the 80-400 Nikon vr just find it a bit soft and can hunt a bit so really don’t need a zoom lens as that parts covered.
Plus I photograph model helicopters with when there doing 3D they are really hard to follow so it needs to be really fast at focusing.
As pre focusing in not possible
