No
DG is designed for digital, but is there any difference as such in terms of quality between the two? Is the DG better? I have a D80 so does that make a difference?

Also if a lens is not on the sigma compatability list should it still work? In manual mode I would guess?

Oh ok, surely a tc's connection should be universal?

I have heard problems with the Kenko TC's with Sigma HSM type lenses? I would be using a tamron on it also

Just seems crazy doesn't it. You would think that they would make it universal really. Are there any Nikon users out there with the same experience?

Looks like I might have to go for the Kenko then? Is there any quality differences between them? I dont mind having to MF although most of my lenses are 2.8 or below, only my 10-20mm is f/4 but I wouldn't use it with that anyway! :D

I wonder if the DG option is for cropped sensors. In other words the TC will only work an APS size sensor or similar. It hasn't been designed to work with full frame sensors, so the definition wont be as good at the edges. There may also be a problem with mirror size on full frames cameras as well.

Also if you look at the compatibility chart from Canon not all lenses will take a TC

But a non DG would work ok on a DSLR with a cropped sensor still? Just like using a non digital lens

The main (If only) difference between the Dg and non DG version of the Sigma teleconverters is the coating on the elements. The DG version includes coatings to reduce internal reflections caused by the 'shinyness' of digital sensors. Other than that both will work perfectly fine.

As for lenses working, I suspect most lenses not on the compatibility list will work, but some may require manual focus. Some will laos fit, but might cause damange to the lens as the rear element might stick out too far.

Finally if you have any Sigma HSM lenses; DO NOT get the Kenko converters. I did, and they do not work with HSM lenses and D40X/D300 bodies. It causes the camera to crash. They work fine with my only Nikon lens though.

Hope that helps. :)

I've used a Sigma 1.4tc on my Nikkor 80-200afs and it works "ok" but the focusing does hunt more than I'd expect. I don't have a Nikon TC to compare it against though.

Ok thanks for all the info, just managed to get a sigma 2x TC from ebay so I will see how it goes. Will report back when it arrives.....

If I have any issues, I will just sell it on and try a Kenko, failing that forget the idea alltogether....(hope it doesn't get that far!)

Once again thanks!

Well it's a sad day! The sigma 2x Converter arrived today, but found that my sigma 90mm Macro or my Tamron 28-75 do not physically fit, infact none of my lenses do!

Looks like it's gonna have to get sold on, and maybe have a look at the Kenko offerings...:'(
