I had this lens and I never really had a shot that I would call sharp.
It's really a case of you can't expect to get very good results from a lens that covers such a large focal range.
 
What ive heard from long range focal length lenses is not good. And at 300mm f6.3 you may aswell say goodbye to any wildlife and fast action shots. Unless its always sunny ...
 
:agree: I've got one of these in a box somewhere, it doesn't even warrant the effort of carrying it around. At the long end the pictures are really soft.

I'd put my money towards something else if I were you.
