I have been seriously thinking about this lens for a while and it seems the price is about to (or already has) jump by a couple of hundred so I need to make a decision now.
I have seen what it can do by looking at flickr and suchlike but being in Spain and not being near any camera shops has meant that I cannot get out to handle the lens so just wondering if anyone has one and what are their thoughts on it.

Thanks.

I have the 150mm f2.8 macro and it is absolutely the puppies privates. I got mine from onestop digital, I've just priced the 180mm f3.5 there and it's approx £150 more than the 150mm. In my opinion the 150mm is a far better bet.

Cheers Paul

Thats a shame because it really is a top lens, Cheaper, faster & lighter than the 180mm. Have you thought about a Nikon? Or possibly wait for them to make the Pentax mount version. I've only dealt with Sigma UK once and found their service second to none.

Cheers Paul

Shame they dont make the 150mm in the Pentax mount, I've got the 105 and 150mm and both are brilliant

looking at your avatar you are into butterflies thats what I use my 150 for :)

I do find for macro stuff with the 150mm I get better results with a tripod and 180 I would have thought needs to be used with a tripod
I read the reviews when I bought my 150 and the 150 is supossed to be slightly sharper than the 180 but in practice you probaly wont see a difference
If its the 150 you really want it may be worth thinking about getting something like a Canon 400D body to use it with ( or the eqivalent Nikon) you could get one quite cheaply now

I've got the 180mm, I was looking for either the 150mm or 180mm and the 180 came up first at the right price. It's a very good lens and according to the specs weighs only 70g more than the 150 (965g vs 895g), however it is quite a lot longer (182mm vs 137mm). If you put the hood on it that adds about another 80mm, so it's quite a beast. In use, manual focussing (as is normal for macro work) is very smooth.

It is just about possible to use the lens hand held, but I'd agree with Pete that to get the best out of it really needs a tripod.

Thanks for the replies, unfortunately the dealer that I was to buy the lens from only had one in stick at the old price of £559 which he sold in the couple of hours I was deciding ... new price ... wait for it .... wait for it ... £819.00 :bang:

Have a look on camera price buster, it looks like purely gadgets are still selling the lens for about £550 and still have some in stock.
