Sigma 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3

I have a budget of £100 to replace my D50 kit lens (18-55), does this get the thumbs up?

(I have 70-300mm and nifty fifty also, but could really use a 'do-everything' lens)

i have the HSM OS version of this and its well worth the money, and it really is good quality (image and build) id say go for it.

While it may look really useful, do bear in mind that f/6.3 at the long end really isn't very fast, and you're going to be needing bright light for it to be useful... While 'do-everything' lenses seem practical and economical, they're a compromise. I know it's a bit of a hassle to change lenses all the time, but it's the only way you'll get the best result.... Just my input though!

Chris

agreed that the 6.3 isnt fast but as a walkabout lens is good and worth £100, if your shooting in bright daylight 6.3 is fast enough but in dim light agreed its not that good at the long end.

Depends what you want from it, but if you're not too bothered about image quality and want a versatile lens then the Sigma 18-200 is good value for money.

As Chris says, at the zoom end (probably 100-200), you'll need good light, otherwise it's a high ISO and/or tripod...

At the longer end I have my Nikkor 70-300mm f/4-5.6, not much faster but more reach on it. Although IQ will not be any better :)

I am selling my 18-200 as I am not happy with the sharpness at all. Like the above posters said I thought it would be a good idea to get an all round lens but it doesnt make up for quality.

However if you still want to try it my one is in good condition and I will be selling it very soon. As soon as I have worked out which new lens I want! ;)

I have a 28-300
Great lens for everyday use as you dont have to keep swapping and changing.
