Can anyone tell me anything about the Sigma 17-35mm EX HSM ?
I assume it's EF and not EF-S

TIA

I have one, this is the 2nd I've purchased.

I think the reviews claim it's a load of kak but actually both that I've had have been sharp. I bought the second one because of a pricing balls up by jessops (£135) then I went to LCE and they took my old 17-35 EX for £140

I use mine regularly and it's a tip top lens and yes it's EF and is not a DC version so works on FF sensors.

oh and I was asked by a friend about proof of the sharpness and this is what I provided him with...

Cheers for that.

There are soem good offeers on those at present - i can't remember who was doing a stock clearance, maybe wilkinson cameras ?.

sigma changed the model about 4 years ago, the one i have is the original EX DG HSM Aspherical which was wider at the lens end than the mount end - proved very useful lens. The more recent version is a pretty square affair - not sure what else changed, improved or became worse with the change though.

yep the thread size (rather annoyingly) went from 82mm to 77mm and it changed to a Manual override focusing ring.

The one I was looking at has 82mm thread, and the auto focus is faulty, but it's cheap and I can live without auto focus.

I picked up a 17-35 EX a couple of weeks ago and have been well pleased with the results, have a look on my Flickr at the Great Central Railway shots from last weekend 95% of which were taken with this lens

The AF failed on mine, most likely because i manually focussed without reverting to MF 'mode' (unlike my 80-400 that has a clutch system). Cost me about £35 to get it repaired, not sure it went to sigma or elsewhere, think the latter.

Its recently started to play up again, but i seem to have fixed it by switching from AF to MF and back a few times !

this happened to my old one as well... partly why I switched to the clutched version. Before I P/X'd it it started to make a soft grinding sound :|
