Just recieved the above for my 7D... :)

Notice in the instructions it says not to use the OS whilst the camera is on a tripod...

Anyone got any views on what happens if you do???

It potentially attempts to correct vibrations that aren't there, which actually blurs the photo
 
It wont self destruct, but as with most OS/VR/IS/VC lenses, you are supposed to turn it off, else it starts trying to react to things that arent happening and can cause burring and softness.

Some lenses have tripod detection which means u don't have to turn it off although not sure if the 150-500 does.
 
The OS was still running as you could hear it, as well as the image stabilising in the viewfinder, so obviously damping out small vibrations.
