I have the opportunity to buy a used Sigma 120-300 non os lens and would welcome any feedback from any one who has owned one. This would be primarily for Motorsport photography where I can see the advantage of the zoom being beneficial. I appreciate weight is a factor, is there anything else about the performance of the lens I need to be aware of?

I had one and sold it to a friend, completely regret it haha! Very versatile lens. Mine was used primarily for motorsport, found it very good and the F2.8 of course provides a lovely DOF for arty farty rubbish :P The non OS is a bit of a pain but really it's not too bad, you soon get used to the weight of it.

I have the OS version and it's a cracking lens, though for motorsport OS isn't such a necessity since you are panning most of the time.

I have the EX DG version. As said above its a cracking lens, heavy yes you will need to use a monopod and mine takes the 1.4x convertor quite well, success rate drops dramatically with a 2X but still get some good results. Dont know if its just mine but watch out for the end coming loose, it just screws off and if it dropped off from any height would do some expensive damage. Also check the thread on the triopd collar, theyre repairable but not cheap to replace if you go down that road.

Many thanks for your feedback, very useful.

Also had the DG version.. Found the 1.4 tele was fine, the 2.0 not so much... Liked the lens & only sold it as also have the Nikon 300mm VR2 - which is on another level..
Found it gave me more options than the Nikon but just not as sharp - The Nikon is sharp enough to cut like a knife.
