as above, seeing as my 10-20 is no good for the 1dmk11 would a 12-24 work ok ? or would i be better with something else ?
 
Yes it will fit. The Sigma 12-24 will fit even a full-frame sensor, on which 12mm is insanely wide.

Would you be better with anything else? Depends how you define "better", I suppose. But there's certainly nothing else as wide as this lens which will fit your camera.
 
when i say "something else" i mean tamron or canon or tokina ? i'm aiming to sell the 40D sooner or later and i'm trying to ensure all my lenses will work well on the 1Dmk2 so i want as good as i can get in the wide angle area

been offered a 12-24 tokina.....any good for the 1dmk2 ?
 
It wasn't your definition of "something else" that I was bothered about. It was your definition of "better". And now it's your definition of "good" as in "as good as I can get".

If you're after the widest lens that will fit on your 1D Mk II then it's the Sigma 12-24mm f/4.5-5.6 EX DG HSM. If you're after the widest Canon lens, it's the EF 14mm f/2.8 L II USM. If you're after the widest Canon zoom, it's the EF 16-35mm f/2.8 L II USM. If you're after the sharpest wide lens, it's the Nikon AF-S 14-24mm f/2.8 G IF-ED, but you'll need an adaptor to mount it on your camera and of course it will be manual-only. If you're after the sharpest wide lens which you can use without mucking around, it's the Canon 14mm or 16-35mm depending on whether you prefer primes or zooms. If you're after the best value wide lens, there's a good argument in favour of the EF 17-40mm f/4 L USM.

So ... what exactly are you after?

I have this lens, but I use it on a 5d mk1. It is a stunning lens on full frame.
Pity you are not a bit closer, you could have give it a good work out.
 
thanks stuart, it looks like the 16-35 is the one i'm after, whether i can afford one is another thing, maybe i'll get a 17-40 for now and upgrade at a later date :)
 
Purely out of curiosity... your camera is a 1D MkII and not a 1Ds MkII right?

If so, you have a 1.3 X FOV Crop factor anyway which will kill a wide angle perspective...why not go FF?
 
yes, it's a 1dmk2 and yes it is a 1.3 crop which is why i want something in the ultra wide range so it will, in effect,be a wide angle on the 1dmk2 :thinking: i think ;)

as for full frame, if i could afford to go full frame i might consider it, i haven't really looked at the options or costs
 
The 17-40 is a cracking lens for the money.

It's not as fast or high quality as the 16-35, but if you're on a bit of a budget it'll do you really well, and it's plenty wide enough to get some super shots.
