Hi all,

I'm thinking of getting a lens for macro photography and just a general lens that i can take pictures of people ect with, for things like insects is 105mm enough reach. Does anybody own this lens and could tell me what it is like ect ect

thanks for viewing

Dave

I have it and its optically fantastic.
Its slow to AF as most macro lenses are but it can hunt a bit if you are not used to how it operates. It also has a external focusing barrel which is anoying as it can get in the way. It aint slient either. Saying that its built well and comes with its own hood allowing the use of 77mm filters and its reasonable priced too.

I think it's a lovely lens. The only disappointment is the case it comes with, but that's effectively free, so shouldn't influence the decision (it is a shame though - the lens seems really high quality and the case seems like it's an afterthought).

Hi,

there is a Canon 100mm F2.8 Macro for sale on MPB Photographic at £199 plus P+P HERE My dad has one and it is superb, probably just a fraction better than the Sigma and it's a good price, if I had the cash I'd be buying it. Search the macro section for Dunedin and you will see some of my dad's shots with this lens.

Mike.
