Having just recieved my 105mm this morning to complement my Nikon D40,the first thing I noticed is that I have to lock lens aperture ring at minimum aperture (largest f stop) before it works. Is this normal ?? Wish I knew how it all worked .!!!!

Robbo, I am really considering this lens for my 450D, I plan to purchase it or a Tamron 90mm by end of week. How are you finding it? and can you share any pictures taken with it please? :)

In my experience, it's has good image quality and is great for macro work (if 100mm is the focal length you want), but the auto-focussing is terrible which doesn't matter for macro but is a pain if you want to use it as a normal lens too.

ohhhhhhhhhhh that has sold it to me, thank you so much :)

I use the sigma 105mm quite a lot, great for macro and pretty good for portraits. The AF can be a bit slow - but not so much an issue with macro...

With macro you also need some diffused flash to get the best from any lens, if you look at the sticky in the macro forum you will see loads of examples for home made diffusers and brackets.

Thank you will go and check at break time here :) have been torn between this lens and the Tamron 90mm but funds can stretch to this ... pasta for a month is not a bad diet lol

I am still to have a go but when I finally get round to using the lens I will post some pic's. The reasoning behind this purchase was that I really wanted the Tamron 90mm with built in motor as this one slightly has the edge over the sigma as far as write up's go. But with funds at a premium and watching E-Bay for quite a few months the Sigma one on price. Looking at Paul's earlier photo's I hope I can match the quality shown there.

I have just bought the Tamron 90mm of a TP'er on here, the price with within bank funds till next payday and I am off work for a weeks recovery so wanted something to play with now - look forward to seeing your pictures.
