b****r...been taking a few shots with my 105,then i turned the camera off.i then decided to shoot another subject,so turned the camera back on to be greeted by a horrible whirring/grating noise :'(.i first thought it was the camera,so tried another lens to make sure...nothing,everything as normal.i then put the 105 back on and it's there again...only for about 2 seconds or so,then everythings okay.

anyone with any ideas?

its got double focus, you need to make sure the focus ring is in M and the switch is on M as visa versa on Auto

focus ring is on M as is the camera, but just did it again to make sure.it also does it if the camera and lens is on auto focussing, but if i press the shutter button halfway down to focus on something...it won't focus and the noise in consistent

This is exactly what happened to mine last week. I think it was the AF motor on the kens. It went back to Sigma (Via Warehouse Express) in the week. Interesting that mine was also on a Sony camera!

i bought my lens from spectrum in tottenham court road in london whilst on a visit to the city, they are one of sigma's premier stockists.i can't imagine it has anything to do with the fact that both our cameras are sony....

will i need to send it back via spectrum,or can i send it back to sigma direct?

have you recieved yours back from them yet,and if not,how long did they say it would take?

perhaps i should ring them in the morning...

I would imagine you could send it directly to Sigma. I sent mine via Warehouse Express because I'd lost my receipt.

Hmmm now this had put me off on picking one up on wednesday hmmm wonder whether i should of gone for a canon 100mm macro now

as fabs has said..i wouldn't let mine, and his experience put you off...it's a truly wonderful lens.we are just two of many, many users out there...i'm a little gutted as i haven't used it for a month or two,and i'm hoping to use it on my holidays in a months time,so hopefully it'll be back by then..fingers crossed.

another question fabs....did you contact sigma first,or did you just contact warehouse express as you had lost your reciept?

i have all the relevant paperwork regarding the lens, and it's still under warranty,so all reairs necessary should be covered by this i assume.i have not damaged or dropped the lens EVER.

I contacted WE first as I had lost the receipt. Mine is also under warranty and i have never dropped the lens. I would imagine if you still have the receipt that shout be good enough for Sigma and that may save some time.
