Recently developed a real hankering for one of these to use as a different perspective in my landscape photography. I currently have a 70-200 alongside my 24-105, and i always find myself wanting a lot more reach. Seriously considering trading in the 70-200 for the 100-400. Anyone had experience with the Sigma?

Thanks Mike, great looking images. I think I’d definitely get more use out of one of these than the 70-200.

I use it on a Sony A7R2, due to the older AF on the R2 it copes ok with birds that are not moving a great deal.
Its a lot cheaper than the Sony 100-400 and a bit lighter too.
Its certainly sharp enough, i have photos of birds on my bird bath and you can see lots of feather detail and water droplets on their beaks.
Only downside is that you have to buy a tripod mount separately, the official Sigma one is stupidly expensive so i went 3rd party.

Thanks, yeah I saw that they didn’t come with the tripod mount included, and have already been doing some research on the best third party options available. I’ll probably be buying second hand, so hopefully I’ll find one that already has the mount.

I went for the iShoot tripod collar which is on Amazon for about 40 quid so not too bad a price.

I've had this lens since it came out for the A9 and it's the one I use the most as I find the range useful, it's just compact enough to be able to carry around with me and I think the image quality is great from it.
