I had one and it's an excellent lens, best way to decide is what are you wanting to shoot, if it's for larger wildlife then it's just about ok but you will need to be fairly close if you want to shoot garden birds etc, it's a very sharp lens and there is a review HERE, and HERE these two review sites made me buy one, I would look out for a good used one as the new price is a bit high compared to used value, I sold mine a while back for around £400.
It works fine with a 1.4x Tele Converter too but avoid a 2x one in search of more reach.
The Bigma 50-500 is a good lens too but I think the 100-300 is a bit sharper and the F4 is handy in lower light over the Bigma.
whitey, let us know how you get one with it and how the 'no VAT' thing works in reality. have heard good things about OSD, in terms of them getting aroudn the VAT thing but first-hand info would be good...
I got mine from URGalaxy on fleabay - cheapest at the time. Cracking lens, well built, sharp, even wide open, and just a joy to wave about in a crowd!!
had a few emails back and forth with them thus far regarding warranties etc as i heard something on here about sometime there is a warranty with no VAT reciept and sometimes Sigma wont touch it without one but i have been assured by OSD if Sigma wont touch it then there warranty covers me anyway
