So I suppose I made a bad decision buying a lens from eBay but having never had a bad experience in just under 200 purchases I thought why not.
I bought the lens at the tail end of last month and it arrived at the office on Monday there.
Upon opening the box and removing the lens from the case I noticed the focus ring was very sticky at 2.5 > 5m and then moved smoothly again before or after that. Turning the focus ring the whole lens seemed to move around at the front.
I attached it to the camera and the AF seemed to be unaffected and worked quickly and locked focus. I'm not a big MF user on teles so didn't mind.
However, after taking a couple of shots and seeing they were significantly OOF I grabbed a bottle and done a few tests at 5m & 11m.
Lens was mounted on the tripod, mirror lockup on and fired using a remote shutter release.
With the lens drooping down it got sharp at around f/8 and was good at f/16. I then lifted the focus ring up (as I imagined it should be, flush to the barrel) and it was severely OOF throughout the range. Not ideal as when the lens is handheld I have my hand there for better handling.
I have uploaded the photographs here on photobucket.
I'm guessing the lens is obviously damaged and have contacted the seller - hopefully I get my money back.
Back on the hunt for another one now, think I'll keep my eye out on here instead of eBay though!
