My friend has upgraded his Nikon and has offered to sell me his Sigma EX 10~20mm, can I ask for your expert opinions on this lens as I'm very much a novice?

Is it a useful lens to have, I already have the AF-S VR DX 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G, the 60mm Prime and AF-S VR DX 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G IF-ED ?

Yeah its a nice lens, don't think you'll find too many complaints.

As a wide angle it's a very valuable lens. I'm really pleased I brought it.

Had this lens for a while now, and very useful at 10mm end, snap it up.

I really liked mine, but had to move it on as it wasnt used as much as i wanted (probably due to location). I found it great fun for shooting cars.

Take it off his hands It's a cracking lens.

It's also about to get very expensive, RRP is something like £550 now. Only a few retailers still have it at the 'old' price.

My old 10-20 still has the award for getting my bestest shot to date.

I don't like it - but then converging verticals aren't my "thing"

<---prepares to be shot down

Thats normal though, thats just perspective. You'd get that with any lens.

In all honestly, the 10-20 wouldn't be my first choice either - to avoid converging verticals, its best to shoot with a 50mm and stand back!

I tried the Tamron 11-18 on the D300 and at 11mm there was far less distortion than with the Sigma.

It's another of those lenses, like 50mm f/1.8 that gets over-hyped. I bought both and sold them on again. The only real positive thing is that because they are so hyped-up there's always a queue of willing buyers for a secondhand one.

Are you talking about barrel distortion, or converging verticals?

If the former, I agree.
