Hi.

Got the above some moons ago with a view to macro, never really used it, so it sat for a year or so, but went out today with BIF in mind.

Got to location, put the tele on my sigma 70-200 (details in signature) and nothing, no AF, no big deal thought ‘dam’ was sure that worked but carried on.

Got home tried it again and nothing, switched to my sigma 105 macro and it works just fine, changed back and nothing on the 70-200, it won’t fit my Nikon’s, so can’t test on anything else.

I’ve tried removing and wiggling it on the 70-200 but I just get nothing, no noise, no attemp.

Any ideas ? I would of thought it’s AF or not, maybe lens, maybe something I’m missing ??

Thank you

You say you put the TC on your 70-200mm lens "and nothing". What does that mean? Could you take photos by focusing manually? Could you select different apertures? Was it only the autofocus that didn't work?

Hi. ah, never actually thought of checking the aperture (now you mention it would be a sensible thing to see if it's working) but im almost 100% sure I tried this and also manual in case it was a blip in the lens, i know it was on F4 when i was out and tried it the first time, so I'm guessing its recognising the fact it has an extender on, manual focus works

But i never actually tried to take a picture, but i'll check all this tonight.

Ok got home tried everything, have aperture control as normal (2.8 stepped to F4 as expected) manual focus works fine and even get the focus circle and arrows appearing. Lens focuses fine when I remove the TC.

Taken pics using different F stops and manual focus, seems to work ok.

Any thoughts, I’m not sure my usual “bang it hard” repair technique will work so well.

I thought I read somewhere recently that the last round of Nikon firmware updates stopped certain Sigma lenses from autofocusing?

Not just the last round, it's been the case with sigma lenses for years on certain Nikon's. Some only AF outside of live view etc.
