Hi all,
I have around 60 slides of the mother in law's from the 60s that she wants scanning. Anyone got any recommendations?
Alternately anyone near Manchester/Cheshire with a scanner who would like to be paid in beer...?

Cheers
Ric

I used an Epson flatbed which had dust removal (cant remember the model but it was circa 140quid) and it worked well. You cant use dust removal on some types of slide though, so I'd check first.

I saw some slide scanners in aldi this week

Didn't look too close at the spec , think they were £60-70 , I've had aldi electronics in the past and they've been pretty good

Trust me, save yourself some cash and just pick up a cheap webcam, a plastic box and a light source, thats literally all those cheap 'film scanners' are. The quality leaves much to be desired, and the '5 megapixel' scans or whatever figure they claim will actually just be massively interpolated. You can get much better quality for only a small amount more by getting a flatbed scanner which can scan film, such as the Epson V500 or V330.

Alternatively @landwomble could use a scanning service as for 60 slides it won't come out too expensive. The company linked below will do the first 50 for only £29.75 and each additional one for 38p (this is for their 'Premier Best' service); one of my relatives got some slides scanned by them, and taking a look at the scans they were pretty good. They use the right equipment (Nikon Super Coolscan 9000ED - possibly one of the best scanners ever made), and the price includes 4000dpi scanning, digital ICE scratch/dust removal and manual colour balancing, sharpening etc. In my opinion you might be better going with that as it'll come to a lot less than buying a scanner just for a small number of slides.
