Shutter Release Cable

HI I AM NEW TO THE FORUM , CAN ANYBODY TELL ME IF IT IS POSSIBLE TO US A SHUTTER RELEASE CABLE WITH A MOTOR DRIVE. I HAVE A CANON AI 35mm WITH MA MOTOR DRIVE AND METZ 45 CL-4 FLASH. REASON I AM ASKING IS I ONLY HAVE ONE ARM (LEFT) SO I AM FINDING IT DIFFICULT TO HOLD THE CAMERA AND PUSH BUTTON ON MOTOR DRIVE, IF ANY ONE HAS ANY IDEAS ON THIS IT WOULD BE MOST HELPFUL THANK YOU WOODY
 
Hello Woody, welcome to the forum. :thumb:

Yes you can - I have the A1 with the MA motor drive. All you need is a cable release which screws into the centre of the shutter button on the top plate. As long as the motor drive is switched on you can select any of the drive modes and they'll all work as normal using a cable release. I'd get a lockable release if I were you which is handy for long exposures too. Mechanical cable releases are cheap as chips compared to the electronic things for modern cameras.

I can see the problem you have there mate, but do persevere, I'm sure you can still get some great shots. :) If I can think of anything else which might help I'll post again.

Hi Ct Thank You For The Welcome And Quick Reply, Which Is Very Helpful, I Have Been Unable To Use My Camera Properly For A Few Years Now, Since I Had An Accident And Lost My Arm . As I Now Have Granchildren It Will Be Nice To Get Some Nice Shots Of Them Growing Up Also Portraits. Thanks Again For Your Help ,ps I Have Used The A1 Since 1980 , Never Let Me Down. I Was Also Thinking Of Some Sort Of Shoulder Tripod ,don't Know If These Are Available? Any Ideas Thanks

And the new Manfrotto 685(B) Neotec monopods can easily be used single handed although they are not cheap at around £90.

I've been thinking about a shutter release cable for my 20D. Are the cheaper ones on eBay (think they're made in Germany) worth it? Is there any real reason to pay the extra and get a proper Canon one?
 
Well all a basic release does Jamey is complete a circuit to fire the shutter, so it's essentially just a simple switch. No doubt the Canon one is better made, but I can't see any reason why you should have any problems with one of these. I've heard nothing but satisfactory reports of them actually.

Just got one, works fine but build quality is only average.

Build quality is evidently not Canon (no sarky comments about plastic bodies on the 300/350 :p), but I got one (german 3rd party) for my 350D.
Did a review about it in the review forum. I would assume mostof it applies to the 20D remote too?

Hi Jamie - I got one for my 20D from USA (via Ebay)made in China. It's excellent and build quality is just fine. HTH.

I have the cheapo adidt remote for my 20D, build quality is Ok for the cost/use and operation has been faultless to date.

Woody, hope you get something sorted with the A1.
 
I have an email into Adidt (sans reply) about the compatibility of their cord remote to the Nikon D200. Do you have a source for good information on their products? Although they do not list the 200, they do everything on either side ...
 
Later in the week I will dig out my A1 and try a D handle bracket that I used with the Rolei TLR and a long cable release left handed to see if that will work. Like you I spend a lot of time photographing grandchildren and off to doncaster in the morning to do just that. I know it will work the motor drive as I have used it before.
 
A shutter release for the D70 would be nice!:hissyfit:

I can't believe I spent £700 on a camera with no shutter release! (mind you I have had it over a year hehe)

...question is, can I rationalise this as sufficient excuse to upgrade to a D200 muhahaha :whistle2:
 
Can you not get a release cable for the D70 then?!??!

No shutter release - how the hell do you take photos then?

I'm sure Nikon's electronic release fits - does the camera have a 10-pin socket on the front somewhere? If so the electronic release will fit that.

oops! :whistle2: my mistake!

Well there is no 10-pin socket on the D70 to the best of my knowledge, but there is a shutter release cable for the D70s.
 
If I remember rightly the D100 had a manual cable release attachment in the middle of the shutter button. Odd that the D70 doesn't - maybe that expalins the upgrade to the '70s

Honestly it's not something I use, even though it's sitting in my bag. D1/2 uses the 10-pin socket.

..yes I found it odd. I had a Fuji S7000 before the D70 and it had the screwhole in the shutter release button.

I do mostly landscape, and it's annoying that I don't have the feature. There is an ML3 infrared remote but I've found the thing next to useless personally!

Oh well, I'll soldier on with the self timer! :confused:
 
If there is no screwthread, or digital option...

Isn't there a 'generic' manual shutter release that you adjust and basically clamp onto the camera body? I'm sure I saw something like that in the Jessops catalogue.

I could be mistaken though.
