Now iirc the BessaL that I borrowed had shutter lock so that even if you had wound the frame on, you couldn't fire the shutter until you primed the arm.

However, my Bessa T seems to fire the shutter even with the arm retracted

Is this by design or is mine buggered?

The Bessa L has a shutter lock built into the advance lever. Pushing in the advance blocks the shutter release from firing due to a locking lug on the advance lever. While some love this feature, others did not. The shutter lock was not continued in later Bessas.

The 'L' was introduced in 1999. The 'T' in 2001.
