Shutter actuation question

So far from what I have Googled, opinions say that there is know way to find the true shutter actuation count of a 400D unless it is sent to Canon. This might sound dumb, but if my file numbering has been set to continuous which it has from day one, then surely the file number of the last shot taken is the true actuation? Or is there something I have overlooked?

iirc if you've used the Remote Shooting facility within the EOS utility to do tethered shooting direct to your computers disk, without saving also to the memory card, the shutter depressions here wouldn't increment the file numbering. This COULD make a material difference, should you have the camera strapped to the computer for a couple of days a month in a studio.

Cheers guys, no every shot was to the card.
