It's an amazing lens - 'my baby'. It doesn't get nearly the amount of praise it deserves, especially for the price. It's my walkaround lens in fact, and I never get bored of the extreme distorted effects it can produce.

One from today taken at 12mm with the Sigma 10-20mm. Remember that wide angles should not be used 'to get everything in' but rather as a tool to develop the scene. That could be by adding foreground interest, as below. Or by using the 'extra space' to extend a story.

Post more of these pic's please a long with hints on how to get the best out of this lens got one booked for hire when I go on holiday.

Why not? 102.4 degrees can come in very handy when doing group shots or space is at a premium....super wide lenses aren't just for landscapes!

I do agree, but the effects of a wide angle towards the edge of the frame should always be considered. If there is limited room or many people to get in the frame then you will have to be prepared for shapes looking different from the norm.

Peter-T has a shot on the link above, London 0640 which is a perfect example of this. Peter, i'm not having a dig at the shot it was just a good example of what can happen to shapes at the 10mm end.

I'm also not trying to pigeon hole wide angles in to landscape use only, as they are usually too wide for landscape. I am though trying to emphasise the fact that wide angles can be used for increasingly creative photography, due to how much can be shown in the frame.

Thats my aim, I want to use is mainly for creative versions of landscapes as im not a massive fan of them, but love the good wide angle shots you see with things in the foreground up close etc, I think the wide end of this should be used more creatively over just a 'normal' land shot you could get with a 17-18mm etc

Look at the second image in post number 7, then scroll your mouse up and down..... freaky or what, it looks like the building is coming straight at you - or maybe it's just my slow pc and juddery screen.

All with 10-22mm, which is by far my favourite lens. :)

Knew I shouldn't have looked into this thread! Makes my decision of selling my Sigma 10-20mm even harder! :(

Those trees are wonderful, Phil!

A wide angle can be used in whatever way the owner of the lens wishes to. I use mine in rooms and tight spaces to fit as much in as possible, that would mean having to stitch many photos together if I used a narrower lens.

Estate agents and the like also use UWA lenses to fit more of the room in and also because of the perception of size it creates.

According to the almighty rules of photography and UWA lenses I'm probably wrong for using it to produce a picture like this - but who says I should care?
