Should I upgrade D200 to D2X?

Some advice from you Nikon lovers out there if I may please?
Per the title - I mainly shoot portraits, equine & other events so nothing that would require a really fast burst rate. I love the feel of the D2X over the D200 but with the same sensor & internals (if that is correct) am I better off spending the money on some expensive lenses (or a new i-Mac!?!?).
I also have the D80 for when I can't decide settings & happy for the camera to work it out for me (coward huh?).
Any comments from those who have, or decided against, upgrading would be most appreciated.
Many thanks.

It could be - I was hoping to benefit from a drop in price on the D2X but will have a think about the 300. Good point - thanks.

Internals and sensor of D200 and D2x are very different. Different MP for a start. The D2x also has high speed crop mode, which is probably not all that use to you.

D300 would be the way I would go tbh. There isnt much that a D2x will do that a D300 wont. I think the build of the body (one thing you like, I know) is the only area where this isnt the case.

If you have a D200 and are basically happy with it, then better glass is a very serious option. What lenses do you have?

Phil,

I'm looking at either a 2nd D200 or a D300 in the new year depending on prices. A lot of my shooting is sports or aviation so the 8fps on the D300 (with grip) seems a big plus point.

Will be watching the prices over the next few months.

Ta,

Adam.

Thanks for the comments guys - Joe T I have Sigma 70-200 2.8, 24-70 2.8, Nikon 70-300 VR & 18-135 kit lens. Looks like the 300 is a serious contender then...

Depends why you're looking to upgrade. I bought a D200 and traded up to a D2x within about 2 months. After trying out the D2x I had to have the solid build quality. The D200 with grip is no substitute in my opinion for a pro body.

Having seen the odd jpg from a D3 ( still yet to see more samples ) I have to say I'm extremely tempted to sell the D2x and go for a D3 now :D

I would get the Nikon D2x ! ;)
Or wait for the D300 to come out. It looks the dog's ********.

Hmmm - lots to think about here. TBH it's the way the D2X feels that's swaying it - I probably couldn't justify it on the stats alone; it's going to be more of a heart decision than a head one methinks!
Many thanks for the feedback guys - much appreciated.

I have a couple of D200's with grips and they feel fine to me. I almost bought a D2x a couple of months ago but was offered a good deal on my second D200, having seen the spec of the D300 I'm pleased I didn't go for the D2x as the D300 appears to be a better spec.
