My website, I just had an email from Wix.com, the hosts, that my Premium hosting plan's payment details are out of date! Thing is I never update or do anything with my site so it's not really worth £200 a year.

Should I just cancel the account?

How many visitors a year do you get?

I chose yes, you could just use a free host.

Well I have just had a quick look and TBH I would cancel it, I certainly would not pay £200 pa

A lot of people seem to use the likes of WIX etc for vanity sites when they could maybe just use the free hosting and templates etc provided by Adobe as part of the photography plan that they are paying for anyway.

I think you answered your own question.

I have a Wix site as a vanity site because it gave me the look I couldn't get from free stuff. However after setting up a commercial site (that pays for itself) I'll be letting the vanity one lapse when the renewal comes around because it's not worth it to me.

The real question though, is "is £200 too much for you"? And that's a difficult one for internet strangers to answer.

The £200 could be put towards a decent camera...

You don’t really have a personal website as it’s full of placeholder text — plus some photos I think.

Why does your poll have the opposite suggestion from your thread title?

From what I can see your photos all look like stock photos?

The waterfall one looks like it could be from Unsplash

Without wishing to be unkind, most of the pictures there looked to be rather too high a standard for the OP to have taken with a compact, and the processing was also quite specific and careful in a way that such a camera would not produce automatically. The only images that looked to me like Rich's other pictures are the banner and the thumbnail of his face. If @MrRichAllen1976 says otherwise then I won't argue.

I think his photos are the ones under the brown "Learn More" near the top of the home page.

I think the best option would be to just use Flickr and there like as it's pure photos there isn't a need for a website really.

This. If you're paying for Adobe CC anyway you get a free website builder included. It's not the fanciest thing out there but you can build a perfectly functional photography portfolio site from it

If you are not getting anything out of it, then don't waste your money. I tried Wix a couple of years ago and quickly gave up. It all looks very slick, but it was impossible to arrange and present our content in a sensible way.

If you have a good idea of how you want your site to look, then wordpress might be a good place to start looking. However, it won't be easy, but it can be very cheap.

OP has said he’s cancelled it (on WCMUT thread), no doubt he’ll announce it here too.

Clicking on your 'my website' link just brings up their homepage, not your site...
It didn’t earlier today, looks like they have not given him his 30 days!

As I write I'm in the process of uploading some of my better shots to a free Flickr account (I may upgrade to a premium account for infinite storage)

Much better approach, then stick a link to your Flickr in your signature on here.
The money you've saved when your ready get a camera that will allow you to learn and be creative.

I'm working on my Flickr right now.

As for a better camera, I have a bid going on one somebody on here's selling, which is on the verge of winning by around 20.07 PM tonight.

See my sig (just updated) with a link to my Flickr Pro account (fiver a month for unlimited storage)

Flickr link not working. Flickr is free for 1000 images I think.

That's the link to my account.

108 up to now and a load more to upload once I've downloaded from my Google Photos account.
Now you’re motoring. You should have done that first and then told people what you wanted to do to improve them or get better ones and which sort of camera would do it!

I wrote on the WCMUT thread but it’s confusing putting in two places, so repeated here:

Look, it doesn’t matter what other people think unless they are paying you. The question is do you like them and are they what you want to get.

People on here will tell you how to improve them if they know what you want to do.

it would be worth sorting out how to put your Flickr in your sig and how to link Flickr photos to posts here — the Mods will help you if you ask!

You would get a lot more help in terms of improvement if you were to turn on image editing so people can show you what can be done

wow I only pay £90 for mine with "stablepoint" .. I ahve nearly half a million pics and a shop on my wesbite and loads of room to spare.. multiple domains.. everyhting i need and its the best hosting i have had in nearly 30 yrs... 90 quid.. how are they charging 200 ? and a quick look shows a LOT of bad reviews...

I may not be an expert in choosing the best brand or website names but that domain name for sure is better cancelled along.

It is a good business skill to master Wordpress and CSS. You never know some business may come from there eventually.
